  12.                                    About the Zen CD-ROM version 2.0

  14. This ROM is the companion CD to the book Zen and the Art of Resource Editing, Fourth Edition, by Derrick Schneider and Hans Hansen. It's chock full of cool resources, utilities, and fun stuff. Here's a brief overview of the folders at the top level of the CD.

  16. * Zen CD Information - You're reading this file, so you've probably already figured out what this icon does.
  17.  
  18. * ResEdit 2.1.3 - The official version of ResEdit 2.1.3, straight from Apple. For best results, copy the ResEdit application to your hard drive. It can be run from the CD, but will be very slow. You'll need this to fully explore all the stuff the book teaches you how to do.

  20. * Zen Guide to ResEdit - We've included an Apple Guide file to provide you with a quick reference for some common tasks in ResEdit. You'll find it in the ResEdit 2.1.3 folder, and if you want to use it you should copy it to the same folder on your hard drive where you put ResEdit. This Guide will only work with System 7.5 or higher, and will be available from the help menu when you're in ResEdit.

  22. * Book Examples - This folder contains the files we used when creating the examples in the book, so you can follow along with our figures more easily.

  24. * Resources - This folder contains zillions of resources you can use to customize your Mac with ResEdit. You'll find a cornucopia of icons, patterns, cursors, keyboards, sounds, and others to play with. Be sure to check the CD Highlights section which contains aliases to some of our favorite resource collections.

  26. * Editors and Templates - This folder contains plug-in editors for ResEdit. They'll allow you to expand ResEdit's abilities to edit resources, and hence your ability to explore and tweak. For more information on using these check Chapter 14--ResEdit Resources.

  28. * Utilities - In this folder, you'll find a number of utilities related to resources. Everything from alternate icon editors to interesting little extensions that make your Mac even more personalized than ResEdit alone allows.

  30. * CD Highlights - In here, you'll find aliases to some of our favorite stuff on the CD. Particularly well-done icons, elaborate patterns, and really cool utilities are all accessible in this single folder.

  32. *BMUG Info - This folder contains information about BMUG. You'll find software for accessing the amazing BMUG BBS, a cool QuickTime presentation (best with QuickTime 2.0 or higher), and of course a membership form. The BMUG Font ROM browser gives you an idea of what's on one of BMUG's other great products.
